Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Updated 7 April 2026

Who can apply?

Accommodation is intended for secondary school and higher vocational school students. Religious or church affiliation plays no role. We do not accommodate university students or students on post-secondary courses.

We accept international students in limited numbers only.

How do I apply?

Simply complete the online application form (available on our website) or collect one from our office and send it by e-mail to studentky@kdm.cz.
Once we receive it, we will assign you a reference number and send you further information.

What are the criteria for admission?

We use a simple points-based system, taking into account:

  • age,
  • distance from KDM,
  • social circumstances to a partial degree, and whether a sibling lives or has lived with us.

In the event of a tie, priority is given to the earlier application date.

Places are limited — for the 2026/27 school year we are accepting approximately 17 new students (16 girls, 1 boy).

What is the application deadline?

We accept applications until 29 May. Applications received after 29 May are placed on a waiting list.

When will we find out whether we have been accepted?

In mid-June we will publish the reference numbers of accepted students on our website. Accepted students will be informed by phone; those not accepted will be notified in writing.

What if I am not accepted?

If you agree, we will place you on a waiting list. Should a place become available, we will get in touch.

When is the accommodation contract signed?

Once the following steps have been completed:

  1. we send you the accommodation registration form,
  2. you return it to us completed,
  3. you pay the deposit.

This constitutes an accommodation contract for one school year.

What does it look like here?

Each student has their own sleeping and study space in the room, including a desk, wardrobe, and storage area as standard.

In addition to the rooms, you can make use of:

  • study rooms and a library,
  • tea kitchenettes on each floor,
  • a small fitness room,
  • shared relaxation areas,
  • Wi-Fi throughout the building,
  • a chapel.
What sets our residence apart from other youth homes?

Our approach to young people, with an emphasis on individual care, developing independence, responsibility, and cooperation. The team here includes people with a great deal of dedication and members of a religious congregation. Our values are rooted in Christianity. We have a warm, home-like atmosphere. We also offer activities with a spiritual dimension (Mass, lectures, discussions, preparation for sacraments) — participation is entirely voluntary.

How much does accommodation cost?

The monthly fee for the 2026/27 school year is 2,200 CZK.
The fee is not reduced during extended absences (e.g. illness or work placements).

Meals are charged separately.

How does the meal plan work?

Full-day catering is provided by an external supplier, the company Ekolandia. Meals are ordered online.

What does a typical day look like?

During the day, students attend school.

In the afternoon there is time for homework, extracurricular activities, rest, group events, and outings.

In the evening students gradually return to the residence, and from 22:00 quiet hours begin.

The daily routine is not excessively strict, but a certain structure has proven to work well.

How are outings managed?

Each day, students may be out of the residence until 19:30 without needing to give a reason. If they need to stay out later, they fill in an outing form. The permitted duration of outings depends on the student's age.

  • Under 15: return by 20:00
  • 15–16: return by 21:00
  • 17: return by 22:00
  • 18+: return by 23:00

If an exceptional arrangement is needed, it is handled on an individual basis (with parents or the Head of Education).

Is it possible to stay at the residence over the weekend?

Yes, but it must be arranged in advance and is subject to limited availability. Only students who travel from a considerable distance (understood as more than three hours) or who have a verifiable reason related to a school activity (e.g. a performance at a conservatoire) may stay.

The fee is 150 CZK per day.
Weekend accommodation is not guaranteed and cannot be ensured for everyone. At weekends, the residence operates supplementary activities in the form of hostel accommodation for guests in order to partially fund the running of the youth home.

What is our approach to education?

We build on Christian values, and in practice this means everyday things such as:

  • courtesy,
  • responsibility,
  • consideration for others.

We approach each student individually and take an interest in how they are doing not only at school but in life generally.

Cooperation with parents and open communication are important to us.

What rules are students expected to follow?

The basics are straightforward:

  • respect others,
  • observe the agreed daily routine,
  • keep shared spaces tidy,
  • do not return to the residence under the influence of alcohol or other substances.

In the event of repeated or serious issues, a student's accommodation may be terminated.

How does cooperation with parents work?

Parents can call or write to the supervisors at any time. If a problem arises — whether academic, health-related, or behavioural — we contact parents immediately.

Parents may, for example, place restrictions on their child's outings.

How does KDM ensure safety and risk prevention?

Safety is ensured through round-the-clock reception, the Salto chip-access system, and constant supervision by the resident supervisors. Risk behaviour prevention takes place regularly through everyday educational activities, group discussions, and individual conversations. Prompt professional psychological support is available when needed. We also have a prevention coordinator, a career adviser, and staff responsible for the protection of children and vulnerable persons — within and beyond the Church.

Do you also operate a hostel?

Yes. Our youth residence runs a hostel as a supplementary activity to help fund its operation, operating at weekends and during school holidays.

Students' rooms are used for guest accommodation on these days.

How does this work in practice?
  • before leaving, students tidy their room and lock their belongings in the wardrobe,
  • at the weekend, rooms are prepared for guests,
  • upon returning, students take their room back,
  • any issues must be reported to a supervisor immediately.

Students who remain at the residence over the weekend are allocated separate rooms.

This is a standard part of how the residence operates and is arranged to interfere as little as possible with students' everyday life.

Do you gather feedback from students and parents?

Yes. Every year we conduct anonymous satisfaction surveys among both students and parents.

We want to know what is working well and what we should improve — and we use that feedback to continue developing the residence.

For parents of first-year students, we also carry out brief monitoring telephone calls during the year to find out how their children are settling in and whether everything is going well.

We are open to feedback on an ongoing basis — you are welcome to contact us at any time during weekdays.

Survey results are published on our website: https://www.kdm.cz/cs/domov-mladeze/ankety-spokojenosti/

Has the residence undergone any official inspection?

Yes. Our youth residence is regularly inspected by the Czech School Inspectorate.

The inspections assess areas such as the quality of education and upbringing, accommodation conditions, safety, and the overall functioning of the facility. The results confirm that our residence meets — and indeed exceeds — the required standards.

What were the main findings of the inspection?

The inspection confirmed that KDM provides a safe, stable, and welcoming environment for its resident students. The inspectors praised the open and trust-based communication between supervisors and residents, the individualised approach to each student's needs, and the high quality of the physical facilities.

What are KDM's strengths according to the inspection?
  • Targeted support for residents' personal and social development.
  • A positive, family-like atmosphere based on respect for each individual's needs.
  • A modern and aesthetically pleasing environment that supports study, rest, and leisure activities.
  • A wide range of activities reflecting residents' interests and supporting their key competences.
